New and Renewed Facilities

Places that are freshly shining bright and new are what Las Vegas is all about. Known as a “city that never sleeps,” the popular adage also applies to the constant updating and development of properties, especially when talking about locations for hosting meetings and events. Take a look at some of the new and upcoming gems sparkling brightly in Sin City.

Opened in spring 2012, Art Square, the newest addition to the Las Vegas Arts District, features 16 creative and professional spaces ranging in size from 150 to 2,500 square feet in three remodeled buildings. It also includes an open area between the buildings, which has been converted into an art and sculpture garden that showcases works by local artists. Facility rental for private events is welcome.

A new $55-million home is being built for the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum in the quickly developing Symphony Park complex. Scheduled for completion in early 2013, the new 58,000-square-foot, three-story building adjacent to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts will allow the museum to add nine new interactive galleries to its more than 100 interactive exhibits in science, arts and culture. Almost twice the size of the existing museum, the new space will be called the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum at the Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center, and just like its predecessor, the new museum will offer opportunities for after-hours private rentals.

The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company (LVSC) announced plans to renovate the 50-year-old Reed Whipple Cultural Center after LVSC was granted the lease for the center by the city. The $45-million project along Las Vegas Boulevard in Downtown Las Vegas is expected to begin in early 2013 and will transform the 35,000-square-foot center into a fully functioning performance space and become Nevada’s first professional company in the League of Resident Theatres. Plans include renovating the 499-seat Main Stage Theater, a rehearsal space, the Bard Lounge, a communal terrace and gardens, an art gallery with Opportunity Village and the return of the popular Rosemary’s Café as of early 2014.

The Hard Rock Hotel recently unveiled Vinyl, a new music venue up the hall from Pink Taco. The venue focuses on five-to-six nights a week of live music programming. The versatile space can fit 650 people standing or it can function with a cabaret-style setup or row seating so it can host a myriad of events from comedy, jazz or burlesque shows to private or corporate events with a focus on live music.

With something always new in the collection of Las Vegas locations available for hosting the most successful meetings and events, the hardest part is choosing which venue to book.

Big Wheels and Retail Dreams
Both scheduled for completion by the end of 2013, The LINQ and SkyVue are bringing tons of innovation and high-flying fun as well as countless retail and private event opportunities to the Las Vegas Strip.

— The LINQ
Since November 2011, Caesars Entertainment has been developing The LINQ, an open-air retail, dining and entertainment district. Situated between The Quad Resort & Casino (formerly the Imperial Palace) and Flamingo Las Vegas, The Linq faces Caesars Palace and spans more than 200,000 square feet of leasing space with more than 30 retail, dining and entertainment experiences, 70 percent of which will be restaurants and bars.

The development of The LINQ is resulting in simultaneous upgrades to three large mid-Strip resorts: Harrah’s Las Vegas, The Quad Resort & Casino and Flamingo Las Vegas. An engaging guest walking path will lead to The LINQ’s north side from the Carnaval Court outdoor plaza at Harrah’s through The Quad, which is the transformed former Imperial Palace. A pedestrian connection also will be built from The LINQ into the Flamingo on the south.

At the back end of The LINQ entertainment district, The High Roller observation wheel will be the focal point and sit parallel to the Strip facing north and south. At 550 feet high and 520 feet in diameter, the High Roller will be the largest observation wheel in the world, eclipsing the London Eye and the Singapore Flyer. The wheel’s 28 glass-enclosed cabins will showcase views of the Strip on a 30-minute full revolution, with each cabin accommodating up to 40 people and available for individual or group rental experiences.
